You might even call this feeling a positive force pulling you in. The adjective positive is used generally, outside of the sciences, to describe things that are appealing, meaning “evoking or attracting interest, desire, curiosity, sympathy, or the like attractive.” If you find something appealing, it means you are drawn to it, for whatever reason. One sense of positive is that it describes something “proceeding in a direction assumed as beneficial.” Being practical is something that helps one move in a positive direction. Practical, “adapted or designed for actual use useful” is another synonym of positive that describes an impact in the material world. On November 10, 2020, Apple announced the first Mac Apple silicon chip, the Apple M1, in the Late 2020 Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. The chip mentioned in demo videos, and used in the Developer Transition Kit, is the A12Z Bionic. MacOS Big Sur is the first release of macOS for Macs powered by Apple-designed ARM64-based processors, a key part of the transition from Intel x86-64-based processors. The new OS also brings further integration with Apple's SF Symbols, enabling easier use by third-party developers as UI elements for their applications through AppKit, SwiftUI, and Catalyst, which makes it possible to unify third party applications with the existing Apple-made design language. Its aesthetic has been described as " neumorphism", a portmanteau of new and skeuomorphism. Compared to iOS, Big Sur's icons include more shading and highlights to give a three-dimensional appearance. All standard apps, as well as the Dock and the Menu Bar, are redesigned and streamlined, and their icons now have square shapes like iOS and iPadOS apps, and are distinctly more round. Its changes include translucency in various places, a new abstract wallpaper for the first time and a new color palette. MacOS Big Sur refreshes the design of the user interface, described by Apple as the biggest change since the introduction of Mac OS X. Using these methods, it is possible to install macOS Big Sur on computers as old as a 2008 MacBook Pro and iMac and 2009 Mac Mini. Developer Transition Kit (only up to Big Sur 11.3 beta 2 )īy using patch tools, macOS Big Sur can be installed on earlier computers that are officially unsupported, such as the 2012 iMac and the 2012 MacBook Pro.Unlike macOS Catalina, which supported every standard configuration Mac that Mojave supported, Big Sur drops support for various Macs released in 2012 and early 2013. To maintain backwards compatibility, macOS Big Sur identified itself as 10.16 to software and in the browser user agent. macOS Big Sur started reporting the system version as "11.0" on all Macs as of the third beta release. An exception to this was the Developer Transition Kit, which always reported the system version as "11.0". Providing some indication as to how the pre-release operating system may have been viewed internally at Apple during its development cycle, documentation accompanying the initial beta release of macOS Big Sur referred to its version as "10.16", and when upgrading from prior versions of macOS using the Software Update mechanism to early beta releases, the version referred to was "10.16". MacOS Big Sur is the final version of macOS that supports Macs with Nvidia graphics cards, specifically the 15-inch dual graphics late 2013 and mid 2014 MacBook Pro models, as its successor, macOS Monterey, drops support for those models. The operating system is named after the coastal region of Big Sur in the Central Coast of California, continuing the naming trend of California locations that began with OS X Mavericks. To mark the transition, the operating system's major version number was incremented, for the first time since 2001, from 10 to 11. It is also the first macOS version to support Macs with ARM-based processors. Other changes include a revamp of the Time Machine backup mechanism, the control center from iOS 7, among other things. The Switch OLED dock is made with a higher quality, thicker plastic and has a bit more wiggle room to allow better airflow as well as lessening the chance of scratching your screen when slotting the console into the dock. The older Switch dock feels pretty cheap and flimsy, and there's plenty of reports of loose hinges. However, the OLED once again improves on it's predecessor. But not all phenomena in nature are based on the golden ratio. In the real world, there are many compelling examples of the golden ratio in natural phenomena. And it’s entirely reasonable that spiritual experiences could be linked with the instability that is less likely at age 30 when personality becomes stabilized. It should be evident that children at age 11 may not be able to communicate the complexities of some spiritual experiences. This result required an alternative explanation. However, the dynamical effects of age 11 and 30 did not support the hypothesis of increased spiritual experience as predicted. This offers a tentative link between the relationship of the golden ratio and spiritual experience. This observation aligns with the predictions of the FLCM. Sacco's 2017 study tentatively suggested that the dynamic effects observed at age 18 could potentially predict an elevation in spiritual experiences. It seems that there might be a connection between mathematics and spiritual experience. Is there a new algorithm based on the golden ratio that can predict spiritual experience? The golden spiral is a subset of these logarithmic spirals, and while it may be present in the examples listed, not all natural logarithmic spirals are golden spirals.ĥ. Nature frequently showcases logarithmic spirals: from spiral galaxies and ram horns to hurricanes and whirlpools. This Fibonacci-driven pattern maximizes the number of seeds on a seed head.īeyond sunflowers, the golden ratio influences the growth of leaves, branches, and petals, optimizing sunlight absorption as new leaves emerge. Inspired by him, Salvador Dalí, in 1955, crafted "The Sacrament of the Last Supper" adhering to golden ratio dimensions. Leonardo Da Vinci's "Last Supper" prominently features golden ratios. Next, I added the holes, including a huge one in his chest (Foxy should stop using his hook to scratch at his itches, I think), and I rounded off the edges of the foam because I think this creates a more natural look. It’s not every day that you see your own chest lying in front of you. I figure being a pirate and sailing a ship and all is hard work and would lead to a fair amount of exercise. After a bit of trimming and sculpting, I had created Foxy’s rather manly pecs, which I attached with the all-important spray glue. I hope this meets her exacting standards.Īfter this, I decided I wanted more shape to his chest, so I made a paper pattern in the shape of his upper chest and tummy (this is the part with the brown fur), and then I used this pattern to cut out a piece of foam. I wanted to avoid making it too loose, as I didn’t want to look too bulky. And, last of all, I trimmed the sides until the torso was snug, but comfortable. I expanded the arm holes and neck hole to accommodate my limbs and my big noggin, and I also worked on the shape I wanted for the shoulders. I had to do a lot of trimming to get everything to fit me correctly, as I have a habit of cutting out my material, fabric, foam, or otherwise, a bit larger than necessary, as it’s always easier to make something smaller than to make it bigger. It appeared my efforts were off to a good start. What is the clothing equivalent of a torso? Why, a shirt, silly! Brilliant! So I cut this out and used the spray glue to bond the shoulders together, creating this fairly, well, torso-shaped shell. (I forgot to take a photo of this.) The concept of making parts of a character out of upholstery foam seems confusing on the surface, but when you really think about it, all you’re doing is making clothes out of thick material. After quite a bit of pondering, I eventually decided that I would draw out a shirt pattern twice on upholstery foam, where they are joined on one side. ![]() Part 1…begin! It may actually be both of these traditions that give us the egg ball, which scraps the meaty punch of the British version for a blanket of pounded cassava. While not quite the unique wonderland as Suriname, a country whose population wins my vote as the most curiously diverse on Earth (and whose Wiki is certainly worth a read), Guyana has its own interesting history, the only bastion of West Indian culture on the mainland, starting as a Dutch colony and ending as an English one. Transformed by Brits from a dense curry floater to the ultimate picnic snack, the eggs changed again upon arrival in Guyana, the home of this recently discovered nightmare spider, the westernmost of that wonderful trio of South American Countries (also including Suriname and French Guiana) which stand brazenly apart from the Latin American tradition, culturally, culinarily and linguistically. I couldn't get the LSP to work for me for Elixir, so I ended up back on VSCode for now. I was formerly a paid user of ST3 before switching to VSCode, but gave the ST4 beta a try a month or so ago. It allows ST users to contribute to the LSP plugin, while ST devs can focus on making ST more awesome on their own way and adding new API-s.Īll I can say is that LSP already has first class support, because the ST devs have specifically expanded the API to allow LSP to implement certain features. Having LSP as a plugin allows the best for both ST users and ST devs. So ST would chase after offering the same functionality as VS Code, but then always be a step back. ST devs would shift focus on implementing the LSP spec which is mainly driven by Microsoft and the spec is somewhat driven by VS Code functionality. Use a spoon or spatula to scrape the bottom and sides of the pan occasionally to incorporate any stuck-on curd, stirring it back into the main mixture. Whisking constantly, cook the curd until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon or spatula, 5 to 10 minutes. Pour the contents of the bowl back into the saucepan and return the pan to medium-low heat. Meanwhile, break the eggs into a medium heat-safe bowl and beat them briefly to mix the yolks and whites together.Ĭarefully pour about half of the hot liquid into the bowl with the eggs and whisk to incorporate this will "temper" the eggs so they won't curdle when you combine them with the remainder of the hot liquid. Pour it back into your jars and refrigerate again. Now heat it to 75C / 170F on a thermometer or to the point that the hot curd will coat the back of the spoon again. Continue to do this until all the curd is added back. Add one tablespoon of your cold curd back to the pan. Turn the heat on the lowest possible setting. Yay! How to fix grainy curd:Īdd one egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of the juice (in this recipe, lemon juice) to a saucepan and whisk them together fully. In any case, I tested this out and it can be fixed. This can be caused by not whisking and agitating the mixture enough or by overheating or a combo of both. The sciency reason: It’s likely the graininess is caused by the breakdown of the emulsification – ie: the fats (in this case butter) and liquids (lemon juice here) not emulsifying properly or that emulsification breaking. You can see it in the warm curd as you pour it into your jars and they don’t scramble by themselves in the fridge overnight. ![]() You will know if your eggs have scrambled. In my research, I felt sorry for the cooks who were saying my curd turned grainy after refrigeration and, despite them knowing it was not due to the eggs scrambling, the only responses they were getting were “sounds like your eggs scrambled”. If you still want it thicker, try adding in another egg yolk (making sure to cook it through as per the instructions). Remembering that curd is not meant to be thick like a set custard, it may be that it wasn’t cooked long enough (see above). The fix? You can actually put it back on the stove and cook it a little longer until it coats the back of a spoon and you can draw a line through it that doesn’t run. In that case, it may be that you have not cooked the curd quite long enough. You may have added too much liquid, although if you stick to the ratios in this recipe, that won’t be a problem. Why is my curd grainy? So, I decided to make a little troubleshooting guide. While researching and testing for this recipe, I came across comments like – My curd is too runny. |
